The Natick Comets hockey program was established in 1952 and has been providing a positive youth hockey, learning, social, and sportsmanship experience for Comets participants for 64 years. Currently through travel teams, skill development, and house league, the Comets have over 450 players in the program. The Comets offer youth teams for levels Mite through Midget and girls teams for U8 through U18. The Comets are affiliated with Mass Hockey and USA Hockey.

In 1952 one man with twelve kids and a vision changed youth hockey for Natick and almost every town in New England. Bill Chase dedicated fifty years of his life to hockey and invited all those who wished to become part of the Natick Comets family. Anyone who ever knew Bill, whether he was giving a haircut, proposing new ideas for the Comets, or taking fifteen minutes to tell a five minute story, had their lives enhanced. This self effacing and kind man, along with his wife Augie, had a profound influence on three generations of parents and children. Bill’s vision of youth hockey was not restricted to kids from Natick. To this day, it includes kids and parents from neighboring communities. It’s not an exaggeration when people refer to Bill Chase as the “Father of Youth Hockey”.

The impact that Bill’s efforts has had over these fifty years and three generations is not too hard to measure. These efforts provided thousands of parents with programs that insured that their children were in the safe hands of people committed to helping their sons and daughters. Although that growth was as individuals, it was always within the framework of a well structured environment of team effort with constant reinforcement of positive values and performances. Bill’s influence on each generation will be felt by families for many years to come. His legacy is the tremendous and positive impact he has had on thousands of lives, past, present, and in the future. This is a wonderful testament to the commitment and accomplishments of the quiet man.

The Natick Comets Hockey Club is run by dedicated volunteers who strive to bring our member families a quality product in their hockey experience. We are always looking for new volunteers to keep up with the changing and growing demands of presenting a great hockey program to our participants.

From the very visible coaches that you see on the ice each week to the behind the scenes members of our Board of Directors we are always looking for people who want to help us build a strong hockey program with a solid infrastructure that can bring an excellent product to our members.
